Immersive Software Engineering · University of Limerick
A four-year integrated BSc and MSc where you learn by doing — spending half of your degree in paid residencies with the best software companies in the world.
ISE is a computer science degree where you learn by doing — not in lecture halls, but in studios and inside real companies, shipping real software from first year.
Two ways in
Future students
Learn by doing, get paid to work with world-class companies, and graduate with a master's in four years.
Companies & partners
Meet exceptional engineers early, host paid residents on your team, and build your hiring pipeline.
The Students
ISE admits a small, highly selective group each year, chosen for how they actually think and build. The result is a cohort that companies compete to work with.
A highly selective intake focused on genuine ability, not points alone — we look for real builders.
Studio-based, project-driven and continuously assessed. Students build from week one.
Partners report students performing well beyond their years by their very first residency.
The Companies
Residencies are not shadowing. Students join world-leading engineering teams as paid contributors — from global platforms to Ireland's fastest-growing startups in fintech, medtech, robotics and quantum.

“Software engineering is a wonderful career.”
How it works
Year 1
Studio-based fundamentals — programming, systems and maths — building real projects in small teams.
Year 2
Paid residencies begin. Students join partner engineering teams for three to six months at a time.
Year 3
Deeper residencies paired with advanced coursework in a chosen area of software engineering.
Year 4
A capstone master's project, often with an industry partner, completing the integrated MSc.
Student stories
In my first residency I was shipping code to production within weeks — real features used by real customers. I learned more in three months than I thought was possible.
I went from writing my first real program to building a computer-vision pipeline for a medtech company. ISE throws you in — then makes sure you can swim.
The studio changed how I work. We build together, review each other's code and ship real things. By second year I already felt like an engineer.
